Brief Information on Drug Use
There is no statement that "it can be used safely during pregnancy" in the package insert of any drug. This is not always because the drug is unsafe or harmful. Generally, the reason is that the experiments on the use of drugs during pregnancy and their harm to babies cannot be done ethically.
Drugs are examined in 5 main groups according to their harm to babies.
-Group A. When the mother uses the drug, it does not have a negative effect on the baby.
-Group B. It can be used in pregnancy. There are no studies showing that it causes anomaly.
-C Group. It should not be taken during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary.
-D Group. Definitely should not be used by pregnant women. It is known to cause anomaly (disability) in animal experiments. There are not enough studies in humans.
-X Group. Definitely should not be used by pregnant women. It has been shown in studies that it has anomaly (disability) in humans.
It is necessary to stay away from drug use as much as possible, especially in the early period (within the first 3 months) of pregnancy.
Medicines used before you know you are pregnant usually do not cause any anomalies. In this case, the "all or nothing law" applies. In other words, if the drug does harm, either the baby is lost or the pregnancy ends in miscarriage. If this does not happen, the baby continues to develop normally and there is no disability in the baby.
