How do you interpret the point of view of IVF?
The desire for children has an important place in our society. It is very important in the society and families are ready to do anything for this. But in society this is perceived as a flaw. He hesitates to go to the doctor. Especially men, women, go see a doctor, I don't need to go, it's not my problem, they say things like somehow. But this situation is 50% 50%. The rates are equal, it can happen in women as well as in men. In particular, the most frequently asked question by the couples is "Is the problem me or my wife?" We do not find such approaches correct. After all, it's a common thing. People have made a marriage for this and both parties should make a joint effort in this marriage.
Should this be referred to as a defect or a health problem?
It's definitely not a defect, it's a health problem. Especially families ask, "We brought the girl, please evaluate whether there is a fault in this or not?" Unfortunately, such approaches still exist in our society, but we are making progress. Now we see an environment where men come. This makes IVF a little more common. It was viewed a little differently before. In the society, things like "in vitro fertilization is not my baby, is the test tube your baby's cell from?" These topics were discussed a lot, abused a lot, and so people had to hide them. After all, this baby is again theirs, again 100% genetically their baby. A test tube baby is no different from a normal baby. As a result, these in vitro babies go to school, get married and have children in the future.
In vitro babies are said to be healthier and more beautiful than normal babies. What would you like to tell about this topic?
There can be such rhetoric spread in the society. In fact, there is no such thing. There are thoughts that sperm are carefully selected in IVF, they are more beautiful because they are carefully selected, but there is no such thing. After all, whatever the genetic structure of the parents is, the child born is the same. It doesn't matter. There are also ideas such as "We will have IVF, because it is chosen in a laboratory environment, it is both more beautiful and healthier" in the society. But there is no such thing.
It is absolutely coincidental that the test tube baby is beautiful. There is no such scientific study. In the studies we looked at; We look at whether babies born with in vitro fertilization are as healthy as babies born in the normal way or their development in society. These are important to us. Our current studies, on the other hand, show that there is no difference in terms of health and other things in children born with IVF with those born normally.
It is said that IVFs live less than normal babies. Is this true?
No such thing. Actually, it's too early to say anything like that. Because when we look at the birth date of the first IVF, we see that it is 1978. However, when we look at it so far, there is no difference between normal babies in terms of life expectancy, health or beauty.
What can you say about male infertility?
Actually, this issue is very important. We always emphasize. We usually say it when we tell my students. First, examine the male. Because it is easier to study the male. You can check whether you are fertile with just a sperm sample. But examining the woman is a little more difficult. For example, it is necessary to follow the monthly periods, it is necessary to look at the time of ovulation, you check whether the channels are open, in short, a lot of research is done and these take time.
Unbelievable paths have been opened for men who were previously thought not to have children. Especially with the introduction of the micro-injection method in 1992, we can directly inject the sperm into the egg. This is a very important development. It gives most of the men who are told that you cannot have children, the opportunity to have children. There are even methods for men with 0 sperm count. In this method, we can provide the opportunity to have a child by taking a piece of the testicles and passing it through some processes.
After what age should a woman have an ovarian control?
These can affect the ovaries if a woman has a family history of early menopause, is going to have surgery on the ovaries, or has radiotherapy for a disease such as cancer. These 3 groups need to be checked as soon as possible so that they do not have any problems with their fertility in the future. We are already telling our other doctors that if an intervention is to be made about the ovaries, first send us a consultation, and then we will do whatever is necessary if the patient wants it.
Can a patient whose channels are connected can have a child again by having the channels connected later on?
We have some criteria in our tube opening surgeries. The first question we ask our patients is how many years have passed. If it takes a long time, the chances of success may decrease. It is also important how the tube is connected. We can look at the tubes connected by robotics or other methods, if the tubes are very destroyed, we can do nothing, or if the tubes are not very destroyed, we can combine them if they have the appropriate length. Therefore, tube opening operations are completely dependent on the situation inside. We cannot see the tubes from the outside, so we say that we can do nothing in the surgery, we can open one tube or both, after seeing the situation inside, with the approval of our patient. The patient has to accept this. Of course, we do a uterine film to see if there is any improvement after the surgery. If the results are good, we tell our patient that she can try her chances of pregnancy in the normal way. Of course, being pregnant in the normal way depends on the man. It may have been good before, but decreased or decreased in quality later on.
Are the genetic codes of an IVF and a normal baby the same? Is there any difference?
There is no difference. After all, again, genetics come from parents 50% 50% way. There is a sperm again, there are eggs, and the genetics are the same, nothing has changed. The same genetic codes are in question in a normal pregnancy and in an in vitro fertilization pregnancy.
What message would you like to give to your followers?
After all, fertility is something that should happen for the continuation of a generation. It is also an instinct in humans. Whatever a woman says, she has this instinct. Of course, sometimes we have to program our lives to have children. For example, a woman who postpones having children to pursue a career. Of course, individuals who have this idea should get some information beforehand, check whether there is a problem with simple tests or whether there will be a problem in the future. For a woman, fertility is always very important, and you don't necessarily have to be married to take a fertility test. Usually applications are made after marriage. There are some judgments such as not going to an obstetrician before marriage. For example, a young girl has severe menstrual cramps and bleeding. When you say this to an elder, it is said that don't worry, it will pass when you get married. Maybe that young girl has a fibroid in her uterus and that's why she's bleeding heavily. However, there is a judgment in the society that such ailments will go away after marriage, and they are not taken to a gynecologist or obstetrician. This affects the girl's social life. For example, success in school or success in business life. But if you go to a gynecologist, maybe this problem will go away with simple drugs or minor surgeries to be given to this person. Unfortunately, it is neglected because of this judgment in society. However, sometimes early diagnosis or early treatment makes a great contribution to the person.
