Which type of patients are recommended IVF treatment?
IVF is very important not only for having a child, but also for having a healthy child. If the mother or father carries a genetic disease, especially Mediterranean anemia, it can be passed on to the child. In order not to leave this to chance, we have the chance to transfer the ideal healthy embryo to the mother in the embryos we developed in IVF treatment.
How is a normal embryo selected in IVF treatment?
Thanks to the advancing technology, we can choose more easily. Previously, we look at the embryo under the microscope and say that the embryo is really healthy, but when we transfer it, we are not successful. Embryo selection methods came later. Now we do a biopsy or watch it with a camera (embryoscope) 24 hours a day to know whether it's normal to be genetic or not. We look at the rate of division of the embryo, the time of division, and we call this dynamic imaging method.
What does IVF success depend on?
First of all, you need a good assessment. The most important is the age of the woman. Fertility starts at the age of 20-25 at most and starts to decline after the age of 35. We are based on 37 years of age in IVF treatment. We get better results in women before the age of 37. Our chances are better with younger patients. If the egg condition is good, if the spouse's sperm condition is good, if it creates a quality embryo and if the condition of the uterus is good, these are all factors that affect success.
What should be done in IVF failure?
In this case, there are some tests that we do. We film the uterus, when necessary, we enter the uterus with a camera and evaluate it. If there is a problem, such as a chocolate cyst, adhesions in the uterus, we try to solve them. We look at the genetic makeup of both the mother and the father. Sometimes there may be a genetic disorder that they do not know about.
What are the advantages of freezing technology in IVF?
Ice cream technology is very important to us. With this technology, we freeze eggs, sperm or embryos. We freeze it at -196 degrees with liquid nitrogen. We can keep our frozen food for a long time. Especially for unmarried women, egg freezing option has emerged, especially women who are thinking of having children at a later age are more preferred. We recommend egg freezing not only for those who want to have a late child, for example, if egg surgery will be performed or if there is an early menopause in their family, if they will receive radiotherapy for cancer or other reasons and if these will affect fertility, if they will damage the ovaries. It can be done legally in Turkey for an unmarried woman.
How to choose good sperm?
There are many methods available for this. The most popular is the technology called microchip. We can select sperm in the magnified environment. If the sperms are selected well, a good embryo is formed. It makes a great contribution to pregnancy in a good embryo. In chip technology, sperms are raced in micro channels, in fact, this is an example of a natural way. There are millions of sperm in the natural way too, and they race to get to the ovary. With this technology, healthy sperm are collected in one place and in vitro fertilization is performed with microinjection.
How is embryo tracking done after fertilization? Do you use technology at this stage as well?
When we look at the classical technique, we keep the fertilized egg in an incubator, this machine is called an incubator, it stays constant at 37 degrees and we look under the microscope to see if the egg has split. Of course, this causes a temperature change and increases the risk of the embryo being affected. In the new technology, we monitor the embryo for 24 hours with the camera method without removing it. In this way, we can see when the embryo is 2-celled or 4-celled, and how quickly it divides. Because we see, we do not remove the embryo and the embryo is not exposed to temperature changes and environmental factors. In this way, embryo tracking is done more dynamically and on a recording basis. We can even show our patients the recording of this development and have them watch it in the form of a video.
Can we get successful results from frozen and thawed embryos?
In the past, some embryo quality rates could decrease in freeze-thaw technology. At the moment, we can thaw them with the quality that we have almost frozen and we can get pregnancy from them.
