Sperm Freezing:
Sperm can be frozen before undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Even sperm samples with low sperm count problems can be stored for future in vitro fertilization or microinjection treatments. Liquid nitrogen is used for freezing. Theoretically, frozen cells can be stored for very long periods under suitable conditions. When frozen sperms are thawed, their motility and vitality rates may decrease below their pre-freezing values.
Embryo Freezing :
In IVF applications, a maximum of three embryos are transferred to minimize the risk of multiple pregnancy. Freezing the excess embryos obtained provides both an economic and a psychological advantage to the patient. In addition, the patient does not need any treatment when the frozen embryos will be transferred. Embryos frozen with the permission of the couples can be stored in liquid nitrogen for three years with a law enacted in 1997 in Turkey.
